5An ounce of prevention . . . .Apr 20, 2010

I bought this glove to use with my mandoline slicer, but now that I have it I use it with my microplane, other food graters, and sometimes when I have a lot of knife work to do I put in on my left hand while I slice, dice and chop with sharp knives in my right hand. I thought it might be a bit cumbersome, but it's not at all. I think it's important to remember that this glove is cut RESISTANT, not cut proof, so reasonable precautions should not be abandoned.

The glove fits my hand very well, but I can see that it might be too small for others. I normally wear a woman's size small glove. This Microplane glove is quite flexible though, and I'm certain it would easily fit a woman's size medium or even large. One man's review here indicates he struggled but managed to get it on his bigger hand. I agree that it would be helpful if the manufacturer offered another one or two size options.

Obviously the glove will need cleaning after using it to hold food. While the glove is machine washable, it's not machine dryable. Here's what I do to clean the glove in between machines washings => with the glove still on my hand, I squeeze some dish soap onto it and then wash it under warm running water with the help of a small kitchen cleaning brush if needed. Then I rinse it, blot most of the water off with a hand towel, and let it air dry. I've had no problem with lingering odors using this or the machine method of washing.

5Great ProductJan 07, 2010

Although expensive, this glove is a time and hand saver! I use it regularly when slicing horizontally into onions, shallots, etc. to protect me from cuts when the knife blade slips. It also works great for protecting my fingers and fingernails when I grate cheese on a box grater. Using the Microplane glove means that I can grate gruyere right down to the rind and avoid nicking my fingers up or having nail polish chips getting into the food.

5Good investment!!Oct 26, 2009

I absolutly love this. I bought this to use with my mandolin. It's a piece of mind knowing that in case I slip with the guard, I have this glove as backup. I think in the near future I'll buy another glove for the othr hand, just in case I forget and do something stupid with the other hand! Getting cut is no picnic. For me it takes about a week to heal (minor cuts/no tendons involved) and doing my daily chores takes forever.

3Off-brand.Dec 21, 2010

Consistent with other recent reviews, the item I received is not a Microplane 34007. Branded "G&F Products" and made in China (isn't everything?), the package includes a model number (1913), a "Blade X5(tm)" mark (sounds fancy!), and promises "Fits Either Hands" [sic]. It also boasts "Next Generation Cut Protection Glove in Kitchen," which must exceed last generation.

I honestly don't have any basis for evaluating the quality of this glove, because I'm sending it back unopened. But it looks similar to what G&F sells on their own site (workglovesdepot) for ten bucks a pair (this was fifteen for one glove).

This item is sold by a third party (HTW). You will not get a Microplane product. I sent mine back.
