Great knives for a great price!Jun 26, 2010
By Kevin Harris After being disappointed with an array of cutlery over the years I finally found a set of knives that I enjoy using and even looking at. These are beautifully crafted knives that fit well in any kitchen. As for utility I have found the Chef's knife to be very well balanced and hefty enough to glide through about anything with ease. The 6" utility knife is very useful and can be used for an array of kitchen duties. It is especially handy for trimming fat and meats (ribs, briskets, etc). The 4" parer is great as a paring knife and can easily be used for trim work also. These three knives cover the majority of all kitchen work the average person is likely to encounter. The 9" sharpening steel is a necessity and I would not go without it. I would certainly add a block for storage to protect the blades. These knives are very, very sharp. Guard those fingers or you could lose them!
The only thing I can complain about is Henckel's overall lineup of knives. I think they would be better served to drop their "cheap" lines of knives and just stick with the higher end stuff. To me the lower end knives just lead to brand confusion and disappointment. People who think the lower end knives are going to be as superlative as the "Pro S" or "Twin Star 4II" lines may become discouraged with the brand before they ever try the knives that Henckel are famous for. At least that's my $.02. Maybe I am too critical but when it comes to knives you should buy the best quality that you can afford. Life is too short to play with dull knives!

High quality knives, just the sizes you needNov 02, 2008
By Ted Don't get fooled into thinking you need a 12 piece knife set - you won't use 80% of the pieces on a regular basis. Far better to buy quality and get the three most commonly used knives instead. This has been a great set, holds its edge well. All it needs is a weekly tune-up on the included honing steel. The only other knife you need for a complete collection is a serrated blade for bread and bagels.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 3-Piece Starter Set - the perfect set of knivesSep 22, 2011
By Resips Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 3-Piece Starter Set is truly the perfect set of knives for a beginning cook or for an accomplished cook. The set includes a 4" paring knife, a 6" utility knife, a 8" chef's knife, and as an bonus, a sharpening steel. Unless you have unusually large hands, these sizes are perfect.
I have these exact pieces, although not purchased as a set. I purchased them separately years ago and I love them. They are used daily. I also have a Pro S bread knife that I use a lot as well as a Pro S serrated 5" utility knife. Henckels cutlery is among the very best in the world, including the top French and Japanese brands. I have tried them all and I always reach for my Henckels Pro S knives first.
I have fairly small hands and I find the handles fit my hands well. The knives are well balanced and my hands and wrists don't get tired using them. I like the fact the knife blade extends all the way to the back of the knife - the blade does not get wobbly with use. The blades stay sharp for a good, long period - I get them professionally sharpened about every 2 years or so. In between, I do use the sharpening steel and the knives are good to go. The blades are made from Friodur ice-hardened premium high-carbon, no-stain steel.
I am pretty careful with my knives, keeping them in a slotted in-drawer wooden knife rack. The drawer is the knife drawer, nothing else allowed. I'm not keen on knife blocks - too dangerous if you have children around. Don't let the knives soak in water - wash and dry them after using them. With good care, these knives will last a lifetime.

I have had a set of these knives for about 7 or 8 yrs...I use the honing steel on them with each use...they are still as sharp as when I first received them as a gift those many years ago...so sharp in fact that I sliced a good chunk of my finger off a few months ago without even realizing it until after the deed was done...so be careful...these are not knives to be toyed with...I would not consider my kitchen complete without them...I spent many years using junk knives...I am spoiled now...I'm thinking of ordering a set for my daughter as I was at her house at Thanksgiving and forgot to bring one of my knives with me...[knowing she does not have good knives...I might as well have been trying to cut the meat with a butter knife]...everyone needs a set of these knives...and as someone else stated...this set of 3 are all you really need...I LOVE these knives...do not hesitate...order these today.

I have an extensive collection of Henckels Pro-S knives at home. This set is to keep at my girl friend's house for cooking there. I'm pleased with each of the knives and the assortment in the set. Excellent balance, good fit to my hand, and solid.
