Sold everywhere it seems, but not a review to be found...Jan 16, 2011
By W. Kirkpatrick This is a nice looking cookware set, but is quite an investment for what the general product description says. Little more than "It's great, send money". So, I did a lot of web surfing and found this on one site. At last, at least something...
"2.6 mm total thickness; 5-ply clad construction; Interior layer-0.4mm 18/10 stainless steel; bonding layer-0.3mm aluminum; core-1.0mm copper; bonding layer-0.3mm aluminum; exterior layer-0.6mm magnitized steel"
An 1mm x 8 x 11 sheet of copper runs about $30, depending on the day. I guess this $400 pot has about $50 or so worth of copper in it. Otherwise it is a normal, run of the mill, aluminum ply pot that runs a few bucks at your local five and dime. I figure a comparable "made in china" (as this one is) pot, technically, should run about $125, or so, at Wal-place. Of course, what price beauty? This does appear to be a handsome unit.
I also learned, or so "they" say, that a "proper" copper layer for cooking should run about 2 - 2.5 mm. thickness across the base of the pan.
This line of pans can be had at DEEP, discounts. I just bought this 8qt pot for $211, when it arrives I'll update how it performs at heat distribution with my 3000Watt induction cook top.
Update:
The pot arrived, and I was impressed. Decidedly NOT your typical "made in china" item. The fit and finish were utterly outstanding. The base was absolutely flat. My estimates from the on line descriptions were simply wrong, you won't ever find this kind of quality at Wal-place. It easily competes with stainless/copper/stainless pots from All-Clad, etc.
On the induction burner a 1/4" layer of water burst to a boil clean and evenly across the entire base of the pot. Heat started to travel up the side of the pot, but not so much that it took away from the action at the base.
Handsome, heavy gauge, solid fit, beautiful finish, and fine heat distribution. Yep, I went and bought myself a 12 piece set.
