Drop Dead BeautifulDec 21, 2010
By mary lynn wolfe I got this set for Christmas last year and have used them heavily. I replaced a set of Wearever that I bought from a friend who was selling them door-to-door in the 1960's. They were heavy aluminum lined with stainless and wonderful to cook with, but they were showing their age and my new kitchen needed something really good looking on the stove in the island. These cook as well or better than my old pans. They are identical in cooking characteristics to the two pieces of AllClad with copper that I also have. And, they are drop dead beautiful! They still look new after a year of heavy use; the insides polish up nicely with Bar Keepers Friend.

Excited and pleased with them.Jan 31, 2012

I bought the 10 piece set online for $795....shipping included. They arrived in less than a week and I'm quite happy with this set. I looked at the All-Clad copper clad set in stores and held them and they obviously felt heavy and substantial, but these puppies are HEAVY!! The curved handle feels a bit more comfortable than the straight All-Clad handles. The other difference is the All-Clad frying pans have a more slanted side. These are rounded at the bottom corners and come more straight up from there. The BonJour set also has the more rounded lids which I personally like, and they have nice, high handles so you can get your fingers under there when lifting, especially with a potholder or mitts. I'll admit I'm a bit of a novice at this, I've had several Calphalon non-stick sets and those were nice, but these pots are at least three times heavier. Did I mention they were heavy? From what I had read about the BonJour set, the bottoms are supposedly thicker than other clad pots, but they never really gave any detailed info about what brands they were going against. However, from one source, at least, the copper inside the BonJour pots was a bit thicker than the All-Clads. Visually, the All-Clads have that copper ring around the side which I didn't really care for, but that's a matter of personal taste. The BonJour set has the copper core visible around the lip when you look directly down at the top of the pan. You can see clearly the separate layers of aluminum and copper around the lip of each pot if you look directly down at the pot from above. Got that? Now, I just got these today but I had to try cooking something on them so I fried an egg in the 8" frying pan. Yeah, I know....big deal.... but I will say that, after using non-stick pots for the past 15 years, having the food stick to the pan was something I have to get used to. Between the heavy pots and the extra scrubbing, I'll be buff in no time!! Now, back to that fried egg..... although some stuck to the pan, what didn't stick was very lovely. No burn at all and very nicely cooked. This set looks really nice, too. The photo is a bit misleading because it looks like the sides of the pots and pans may be rounded, but that's not the case. They have a slightly rounded bottom edge where it turns up to form the side wall, but it goes up straight from there. The lids are domed but they look great and give you more room inside the pot than the flat All-Clad lids. All I can say is.... these are some heavy pots and pans and they look absolutely great!! One fried egg doesn't tell much, but visually these are very nice. I prefer the look and handles over the All-Clads. And they certainly seem every bit as sturdy, if not more so, as the All-Clads. One last thing, after I cooked that test egg, I removed the pan and put it on a cold burner and it was still very warm to the touch after about ten minutes or more. I could touch it but probably wouldn't be able to leave my hand on the bottom of the pan. It finally cooled enough to wash it after almost fifteen minutes. Hope this helps anyone who's looking at these. I'm pretty happy so far. They look and feel great. (Did I mention these suckers are HEAVY?!!!)
UPDATE: Okay, have had these for about two or three weeks and am totally happy with them. I've learned how to cook with the stainless steel.... I add butter and the eggs just slide around... they clean up well with the Bartender's Friend. I've made chili and chicken stock and have great results. The handles and lids are better than the All-Clad, in my opinion. Because the handle flares where it connects to the pan, you can use that as leverage to help tilt and pour (although you may need to use a towel so you don't burn your fingers). I'm totally happy with these. Would definitely recommend.
